IRVING, Texas – Max Brosmer (Roswell, Ga.) and Ryan Toscano (Bedford, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire football team were named to the 2024 NFF Hampshire Honor Society as announced Wednesday by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.
The 2024 NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and sprint football who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must be either: a senior player who will graduate this spring/summer and just completed his final year of playing eligibility in 2023; or a graduated player who has been out of high school at least three years.
Honorees must have: attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale) and been a starter or significant contributor throughout the 2023 season.
Brosmer became the first repeat recipient of the CAA Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year award this season. The junior quarterback also earned a spot on the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team, the CSC Academic All-District Team and the National College Athlete Honor Society for the second consecutive year in 2023.
Brosmer, who also received the 2023 CAA Football Chuck Boone Leadership Award, has earned a spot on the conference's Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll every year. He compiled a 3.88 GPA while earning his Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science - Medical and Veterinary Sciences. He has recorded a 4.0 GPA while pursuing a graduate degree in kinesiology.
He was a finalist for the Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy in '23.
In recognition of an exceptional 2023 season on the field, Brosmer was voted runner-up for the Walter Payton Award, which is presented annually to the top offensive player in FCS. He also earned All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Stats Perform, FCS Football Central, and Phil Steele.
Brosmer completed 294 of 459 passes for 3,464 yards and 29 touchdowns in 11 games. That's an average of 314.9 yards per game on a 64.1 completion percentage. Those numbers rank second on UNH's list of single-season superlatives in completions, pass attempts and passing yards.
The captain led FCS football in two statistics: passing yards per game and total offense (325.0 yards/game). He also ranked #2 in passing yards, passing touchdowns and points responsible for per game (18.9), as well as #4 in completions per game (26.64) and points responsible for (208).
Toscano has also been named to the National College Athlete Honor Society twice (2021 and 2022). The senior linebacker has earned a spot on the conference's Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll every year.
Toscano, who started all 11 games, was UNH's top tackler with 74. He led all Wildcats with 43 assisted tackles – only three teammates tallied 43+ total tackles – and ranked third with 31 solo stops. His other stats included 4.5 tackles for loss with three sacks, as well as a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.
Toscano was UNH's tackler in 7 of 11 games and that included a season high of 12 total tackles vs. Towson University. He recorded a career-high nine solo stops in that game. Toscano finished with nine tackles with an identical split of two solo tackles and seven assisted tackles against both Central Michigan University and UAlbany.
An elite group of 1,989 players from 339 schools qualified for NFF Hampshire Honor Society membership in 2024 to set a record for the number of members in a single year in the Society's 18th year. The initiative has now honored 18,387 student-athletes since its inception.
UNH capped the 2023 season with a 44-25 win against the University of Maine in the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle to retain the Brice-Cowell Musket and end the season with a winning record of 6-5.
