Blair Named to National Women's Rookie of the Year Watch List

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) of the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team has been named to the Hockey Commissioners Association National Women's Rookie of the Year Watch List. The announcement was made Thursday afternoon.
Blair is one of 23 players on the Watch List. Also of note, she is one of five goalies on the list as well as one of three Hockey East rookies.
UNH's rookie goalie has been named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week by Hockey East three times this season – Oct. 2, Jan. 15 and Jan. 29. She was also honored as the league's Player of the Week on Dec. 4.
Blair has started all 26 games this season and played 1529 minutes, 4 seconds of a possible 1575:50 in net (97.0 percent). She has a 12-12-3 record with a 2.35 GAA, .917 save percentage and four shutouts to rank third in Hockey East in both wins and minutes.
Blair recorded three consecutive shutouts against Harvard University, College of the Holy Cross and University of Vermont as part of an overall shutout streak of 193:01 that spanned Nov. 11 to Dec. 8. She recorded her first career shutout with a 27-save effort in UNH's 2-0 win at UConn on Oct. 20.
Blair has been credited with 30+ saves in a game 10 times, including each of the past three games and five of the last six. This past weekend, she stopped 65 of 69 shots for a .942 save percentage and 2.00 GAA to backbone the Wildcats to a two-game sweep of Maine, which entered the weekend averaging 2.96 goals per game.
In the month of November, Blair had a 1.82 GAA and .934 save percentage in five games. She stopped 59 of 61 shots (.967 save percentage) in a two-game series vs. Providence College and also had a 19-save shutout of Harvard in November. Blair made a career-high 40 saves in the 3-1 win at PC on Nov. 3.
At season's end, a ballot consisting of each Division I conference's Rookie of the Year recipient will be presented to the nation's assistant coaches and they will vote, one per school, to determine the winner of the national award.
The 2024 National Women's Rookie of the Year will be announced during the Women's Frozen Four, which is being held at UNH's Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on March 22 & 24.

New Hampshire plays 13th-ranked Northeastern University in a home-and-home series this weekend. The teams face off at UNH's Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on Feb. 1 (6 p.m.) and again at NU's Matthews Arena on Feb. 3 (4:30 p.m.).
