EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey skated past Long Island University (0-2-0, 0-0-0 NEWHA) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 3) at Northwell Health Ice Center, taking a 3-0 decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-UNH opened the scoring just 3:56 into the game, when Julia Cabral (Lee, N.H.) collected a feed from Callista Printz (Buffalo, N.Y.) in the left face-off circle before firing past LIU's Kayla Czukoski for the 1-0 advantage.
-Neither team scored in the second period, keeping the 1-0 Wildcat lead in place. New Hampshire dominated the attack, outpacing LIU 18-5 on the shot chart.
-The Wildcats almost doubled their advantage midway through the frame, but the would-be goal was called off for high sticking.
-Shortly after, Addison Finn (Stillwater, Minn.) took a feed on the doorstep from Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.), firing it into the net to take a 2-0 lead.
-With LIU's goaltender on the bench, Sofia Kari (Alajärvi, Finland) slipped the puck into the empty net for her first collegiate goal, bringing about the final 3-0 score.
