Wildcats defeat Bridgeport and place second to LIU; Gorgenyi wins three events
DURHAM, N.H. – Graduate student Kylie Gorgenyi (North Reading, Mass.) registered first-place finishes on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise while tying for first place in all-around with a personal-best 39.375 to lead the UNH gymnastics team to Sunday's runner-up finish (194.800) in a home-opening tri-meet against LIU (195.225) and Bridgeport (192.800) in the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•Gorgenyi began the meet with a career-high-matching 9.875 on vault to edge freshman teammate Anne Challman (Lewisburg, Pa.) for first place. Challman totaled a 9.825 in her collegiate debut to beat out third-place finishers, junior Jenna DeVincenzo (Bethpage, N.Y.) and sophomore Serena Mullin (Hamden, Conn.), who each set or tied a personal best with a 9.800. UB's Nova Staruk also tallied a 9.800 for a share of third. The Wildcats' event-winning 49.050 was their highest score of the meet.
•UNH also set the pace on bars with a 48.775, headlined by Gorgenyi's 9.850. LIU's Syd Morris placed second (9.800), while graduate student Kenadi Brown (Las Vegas, Nev.) scored a 9.775 to share third place with LIU's Kate Parks and Isabella Savino.
•The Sharks won balance beam with an impressive 49.200. Morris was nearly perfect with a 9.975 to top the podium. Mullin shared second place (9.825) with LIU's Alana Ricketts and Annalisa Page.
•Gorgenyi reigned supreme on floor by virtue of a 9.875 to narrowly claim victory over runner-up Challman (9.850) for the second time. Morris and Bridgeport's Lola Sepulveda shared third place with a 9.825.
•Gorgenyi and Morris deadlocked for the all-around championship, with Bridgeport's Abigail Kenney finishing third (39.000).
NEXT UP
•UNH (1-1) and LIU (2-0) meet again in one week, with the Sharks hosting a quad meet in the Pratt Recreation Center against the Wildcats, Yale and Southern Connecticut State on Sunday, Jan. 21 (2 p.m.). That UNH/LIU head-to-head encounter will count toward the EAGL regular-season standings.
