DURHAM, N.H. – Junior quarterback and captain Max Brosmer (Roswell, Ga.) of the No. 11/12 University of New Hampshire football team was named the FCS National Performer of the Week by College Football Performance Awards on Monday night.
Brosmer completed 19 of 25 passes for 284 yards and a career-high five touchdowns to lead UNH to a 51-17 victory against Stonehill College in the Sept. 2 season opener at W.B. Mason Stadium. Those stats computed to a 237.4 QB efficiency rating. To put that in perspective, his highest single-game QB rating last season, when Brosmer ranked No. 9 in the nation in both passing yards and passing TDs, was 194.1 and his season rating was 143.2.
He compiled those stats in three quarters against Stonehill as the 'Cats led 51-10 through 45 minutes of play.
His five TD passes were to five different receivers and overall Brosmer completed a pass to 11 different Wildcats with no 'Cat targeted more than four times.
New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 9 (1:30 p.m.) at FBS representative Central Michigan University. The Wildcats' home opener is against intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Sept. 16 (6 p.m.), which is Youth Sports Day and Band Day. Tickets are available online by CLICKING HERE or by phone at (603) 862-4000 or by e-mail at UNH.Tickets@unh.edu.
In the first quarter, Brosmer was 6-for-10 for 65 yards and a pair of TD passes. On 3rd-and-goal from the SC 2, he found Colby Ramshaw (Londonderry, N.H.) in the right flat for the first score of the game at 12:06. Two UNH drives later, Brosmer completed a short pass to Dylan Laube (Westhampton, N.Y.) in the right slot for a 23-yard score on 4th-and-4; that touchdown extended the Wildcats' lead to 20-0 at 7:06.
In the second quarter, Brosmer threw for 114 yards and a TD by completing 4 of 6 pass attempts. On the first play of the quarter, he hit Heron Maurisseau (Bellport, N.Y.) in stride at the SC 25 yard line for a 69-yard touchdown strike to push the margin to 34-0.
Brosmer was a perfect 9 of 9 for 105 yards and a pair of TDs in the third quarter. On UNH's opening possession of the second half, he engineered a 10-play, 85-yard touchdown drive that consumed 6:23 off the clock. Brosmer was 6-for-6 for 60 yards on the drive, which culminated with a 4-yard pass when he found Drew Danson (Wrentham, Mass.) in the back of the end zone at 6:12.
On UNH's next drive, Brosmer completed all three pass attempts and that included a 22-yard scoring play to Logan Tomlinson (Manchester, Conn.) with 25 seconds on the clock to cap a 7-play, 69-yard drive.
Brosmer's previous best of four touchdown passes was last season against North Carolina Central.
In this past Saturday's game at Stonehill, Brosmer climbed to No. 7 on UNH's career leaderboard for passing yards with 5,536; he surpassed both Jim Stayer (5,349 yards; 1992-94) and Matt Griffin (5,425; 1987-91).
