Martell and 4x800m Relay Team Win Conference Titles as 'Cats Conclude AE Outdoor Championships

ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) secured her first individual championship in conference competition in the 800m run Sunday afternoon as the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team concluded day two of the America East Outdoor Championships at the UAlbany Track and Field Complex.
The Wildcats finished in sixth place in the overall team standings, finishing the weekend with a total of 81 points.
RESULTS
FIELD EVENTS
Freshman Opal Shinnlinger (Canaan, N.H.) notched a fifth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 130' (39.62m).
Sophomore Autumn Agri (Stratham, N.H.) reached a distance of 37' 10.75" (11.55m) to come in sixth place in the triple jump.
Graduate student Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) came in ninth place in the shot put, reaching a distance of 39' 11.5" (12.18m). Freshman Lindsay Isaacs (Rutland, Mass.) finished tenth with a throw of 38' 7" (11.76m).
With the conclusion of the heptathlon on Sunday afternoon, freshman Kristen Kirk totaled an overall score of 3.782 to come in 7th place in the final standings. Her time of 2:34.74 gave her the best time in the 800m portion of the heptathlon for her best finish. She also set new personal bests in the 100m hurdles, long jump, and javelin throw during the course of the weekend.
TRACK EVENTS
Four different Wildcats ran in the 1500m finals and all four finished in the top 10. Graduate student Nicole Yeomans (Foxboro, Mass.) ran to a fifth-place finish with a time of 4:32.48 tp lead the 'Cats. Junior Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) finished sixth with a time of 4:33.23 while sophomore Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) finished close behind with a time of 4:33.45 to come in seventh place. Junior Emma York (Penacook, N.H.) finished tenth, crossing the finish line in 4:42.92.
Martell took home the top finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:08.24 while senior Cailey Archer (Berthoud, Colo.) came in sixth place, and sophomore Silvia Caddel (Salem, N.H.) finished a hundredth of a second behind her to finish in seventh place. Archer's time of 2:13.02 was a new personal best for the senior while Caddel's finish in 2:13.03 was also a personal best.
Yeomans had her second race late Sunday afternoon, tallying a third-place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 17:28.13 which set a new best time in the event for the grad student.
The squad of Ronan, Archer, Caddel, and Martell came out victorious in the 4x800m relay to win their third straight AE Outdoor Championship in the event with a time of 9:01.94, ten seconds faster than the second-place team.

The Wildcats return to action at Shea Stadium on the campus of Army West Point for the West Point Twilight Meet on Thursday, May 11.
