Martell Places First in 1500m Run at New England Outdoor Championships

DEDHAM, Mass. – Junior Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) placed first in the 1500m run as the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team competed in the New England Outdoor Championships at the Solomon Outdoor Track Friday and Saturday afternoon.
With the conclusion of events on Saturday afternoon, the team finished in eighth place with a combined score of 32.5 points.
RESULTS
FIELD EVENTS
Sophomore Olivia Valianti (Mansfield, Mass.) set a new personal record when she placed third in the javelin with a distance of 140' 02" (42.74m).
Graduate student Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) came in eighth place in the hammer, reaching a personal record distance of 182' 07" (55.65m).
Freshman Makena Lee (Northwood, N.H.) had a 11' 9.75" (3.60m) jump in the pole vault to finish eighth.
TRACK EVENTS
Martell ran a time of 4:28.55, placing her in first in the 1500m run. Junior Emma York (Penacook, N.H.) finished eighth with a time of 4:36.95.
Graduate student Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) placed fifth with a time of 17:09.50 in the 5000m run.
Senior Cailey Archer (Berthoud, Colo.) placed tenth in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.83.
The squad of graduate student Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), junior Silvia Caddel (Salem, N.H.), Archer, and Martell came out victorious in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:07.94, seven seconds faster than the second-place team, Rhode Island.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats return to action for the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. at the University of North Florida starting on Wednesday, May 24 and concluding on Saturday, May 27.
