Martell to Compete in 800m at NCAA East Preliminary (May 25-27)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.), a junior of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team, has qualified to compete in the 800-meter run at the 2023 NCAA East Preliminary Round at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville from May 24-27.

The 800m first round will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 7:50 p.m. with the top 24 runners advancing to the 800m quarterfinals on May 27 at 7:05 p.m. The top 12 runners from the East quarterfinals will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas from June 7-10.
Martell has raced in the 800m three times during this outdoor track & field season. Most recently, she was the America East champion with a time of 2 minutes, 8.24 seconds. Martell recorded her top time of 2:05.32 this outdoor season to earn fifth place at the Virginia Challenge in late April. One week earlier, she finished third (of 34 runners) in the 800m at the Friar Invitational.
Martell has also anchored UNH's 4x800m relay team to both America East and New England titles this month.
Martell ranks second in America East, sixth in the Northeast region in the 800m, and fourth in the conference in the 1,500m.
Martell also qualified to compete in the 800m at the 2021 NCAA East Preliminary, where she advanced out of the first round with a personal-best time of 2:04.31.
