Williams Wins Hammer Throw as 'Cats Compete at George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. - Graduate student Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) won the hammer throw Friday afternoon as the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team competed in the George Davis Invitational at the Cushing Athletic Complex this weekend.
RESULTS
FIELD EVENTS
Williams won the hammer throw with a toss of 175' 4" (53.45m). Williams also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 41' 7.25".
Freshman Lindsay Isaacs (Rutland, Mass.) had a throw of 39' 11.25" (12.17m) to come in sixth in the shot put.
Freshman Opal Shinnlinger (Canaan, N.H.) had a sixth-place finish in the discus throw as she recorded a toss of 123' 1" (37.52m).
Sophomore Olivia Valianti (Mansfield, Mass.) came in third place in the javelin throw in her outdoor season debut, reaching a distance of 129' 8" (39.52m).
Freshman Makena Lee (Northwood, N.H.) finished in fourth place in the pole vault, reaching a mark of 10' 11.74" (3.35m).
Sophomore Autumn Agri (Stratham, N.H.) came in fourth place in the triple jump with a leap of 38' 2.75" (11.65m).
TRACK EVENTS
Sophomore Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) came in eighth place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:36.98 while junior Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) finished close behind with a time of 4:42.52 to come in ninth.
Senior Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.) finished in fifth place in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line in 12.75 seconds.
Junior Silvia Caddel (Salem, N.H.) finished the 400m run in sixth place with a time of 1:01.22 to set a new personal best while senior Cailey Archer (Berthoud, Colo.) came in tenth place, finishing in 1:02.44.
In the 800m run, junior Emma York (Penacook, N.H.) set a new personal best with a time of 2:18.55 to come in seventh place in the event.
Graduate student Kira Nolan (Richmond, Vt.) came in fourth place in the 5000m run as she crossed the finish line in 18:32.07.
The squad of Almasian, sophomore Nadege Masumbuko (Manchester, N.H.), junior Mia Taranko (Saco, Maine), sophomore Gwenyth Dahlinger (Pelham, N.H.), and freshman Liliana Chirichella (Troy, N.H.) came in sixth place in the 4x100m relay race with a time of 50.39 seconds.
The group of Archer, Caddel, Doody, and Ronan had a fourth-place finish in the 4x400m relay race, finishing in 4:05.87.
VIRGINIA CHALLENGE MEET
On Friday, the Wildcats sent junior Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) and graduate student Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) to the University of Virginia for the Virginia Challenge Meet.
Martell competed in the 800m run and finished in fifth place, notching her best time of the season in the outdoor 800m, clocking in at 2:05.32.
Yeomans ran in the 1500m run for the first time this outdoor season and finished with a time of 4:32.33.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats return to action for the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa beginning on Thursday, April 27 with the event concluding on Saturday, April 29. They will also be competing in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. during the same timeframe as the Drake Relays.
