Hoffman Wins Discus as Multiple ‘Cats Set Personal Bests at UConn Northeast Challenge

STORRS, Conn. – Junior Joshua Hoffman (Litchfield, N.H.) led the 'Cats with a first-place finish in the discus throw as the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team competed in the UConn Northeast Challenge in a two-day meet.

RESULTS

FIELD EVENTS

Hoffman competed in a field of 34 competitors and finished in first place in the discus throw with a distance of 179' 4" (54.67m).

Freshman Jayson Blaisdell (Barrington, N.H.) set a new personal best in the javelin with a throw of 162' 1" (49.41m).

Graduate student Kevin McGrath (Hopkinton, N.H.) tallied a second-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6' 8" (2.03m).

Senior Andrew Fleming (Acton, Mass.) set a new personal best in the hammer throw as he led the 'Cats on the leaderboard with an eighth-place finish, throwing a distance of 186' 11" (56.99m). Freshman Jack Washam (Nashua, N.H.) also set a personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 145' 8" (44.41m).

TRACK EVENTS

Freshman John Murphy (Deerfield, N.H.) came in seventh place in the 1500m run, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:53.92 to set a new personal best. Sophomore Kevin Finn (Kennebunk, Maine) also set a new personal best and finished in tenth place, clocking in at 3:54.96.

Sophomore Peyton Ramsey (Plainville, Conn.) also set a new best time in the 1500m with a time of 3:57.91. A fourth personal best was set in the event as freshman Zachary Hooper (Concord, N.H.) crossed the finish line at 4:00.16.

Two Wildcats finished the 400m run in under 50 seconds for the first time in their careers, with freshman Nathan Fletcher (Portsmouth, N.H.) finishing in 48.49 seconds and junior Adrian Sutton (Rochester, N.H.) finishing in 49.84 seconds.
