O'Connor Scores 18 Points in Loss Versus UMass Lowell

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman guard Avery O'Connor (Dedham, Mass.) recorded 18 points in the University of New Hampshire women's basketball 55-49 loss vs. UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon in Durham.
Kane also scored 10 points and collected 6 rebounds for UNH in the contest.
The Wildcats conclude the season 7-21 (2-14 AE) and UMass Lowell improves to 5-21 (4-12 AE).

FIRST QUARTER:
· O'Connor splashed a deep three for the Wildcats first points of the game.
. Senior center Brooke Kane (Derry, N.H.) dimed freshman guard Breezie Williams (Canton, Ohio) up under the net for a wide opened layup.
· The River Hawks took their first lead halfway through the first quarter thanks to back-to-back Jaini Edmonds buckets.
· UNH broke a 12-0 River Hawk run with points on two straight possessions from Kane and Junior guard Adara Groman (Hopkinton, Mass.).
· The Wildcats trailed the River Hawks 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER:
· O'Connor opened up the second quarter with her second three-pointer of the day to put UNH down by three.
· Groman was able to bring the deficit to just two points after a layup and a free throw.
· Edmonds stepped back and knocked down a three-pointer halfway through the second. She was fouled on the shot and converted the four-point play. A technical foul was called on the River Hawks following the shot and Kane netted the two free throws.
· Freshman Diana Eliasson (Stockholm, Sweden) spun through the lane and finds the basket for her first points of the game then O'Connor pick-pockets one of the River Hawks and found herself with an easy breakaway layup.
. With 30 seconds remaining, Kane found her sixth points of the game leaving the Wildcats down 27-22 at halftime.
THIRD QUARTER:
· O'Connor kicked off the third quarter with an out-stretched layup then Groman went to the line and made both free throws to bring the Wildcats' deficit to just one point.
· Cote gave the Wildcats their first lead since the first quarter after stepping through the lane and converting a layup.
. The River Hawks quickly responded after converting points on back-to-back possessions.
. UMass Lowell responded with a 7-0 run to put them up 38-32 at the end of the third quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER:
· Cote, Kane, and O'Connor scored on consecutive possessions to start the final quarter.
· O'Connor converted a tough "and-one" to get the crowd on their feet and give the Wildcats a 41-40 lead with 6:41 remaining in the game.
. Edmonds responded with a three-pointer and a two-point jumper to regain the River Hawks lead.
. O'Connor pulls up from outside the arch and drills a three-pointer for her 16th point of the day 2:43 remaining.
. UMass Lowell made the free-throws they needed to walk away with the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
