O’Connor Scores 27 Points in 83-24 Home Opening Victory Versus Colby Sawyer

DURHAM, NH – Freshman guard Avery O'Connor (Dedham, Mass.) scored 27 of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team's points in their 83-24 victory against Colby-Sawyer on Monday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats' record improves to 1-0-0 (0-0-0 AE) and Colby-Sawyer's falls to 0-0-1 (0-0-0 GNAC).

FIRST QUARTER:
· Junior guard Belen Morales Lopez (Bellreguard, Spain) scored the first point of the game and UNH held the lead the rest of the way.
· UNH led the scoreboard with an 18 – 0 run in the first eight minutes before Colby Sawyer made a free throw.
· Senior guard Brooke Kane (Derry, NH) led the run with six points.
· O'Connor scored the last point of the quarter in the last seven seconds with a layup putting the 'Cats up 25 - 1.
SECOND QUARTER:
· With nine minutes left in the half, Kane started a seven-point run with a three-point shot.
· O'Connor started another run with another three-point shot putting the Wildcats up to 44 - 9 before Colby-Sawyer scored.
· Junior guard Adara Groman (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored within the last ten seconds of the quarter with a layup, giving the 'Cats a 46 – 12 lead.
THIRD QUARTER:
· In the 'Cat's first run of the third quarter, Lopez started UNH off with a layup putting them up at 48 – 12 before Colby Sawyer scored and put the score at 53 -14.
· O'Connor started another run with a three-point shot leading the 'Cats to a 56 – 14 advantage, and immediately scored again with a jumper.
· O'Connor ended the quarter in the last second with two free throws putting the 'Cats up 65 - 16
FOURTH QUARTER:
· At the beginning of the quarter, freshman guard Breezie Williams (Canton, Ohio) started a run with a layup.
· In the run, Lopez scored 5 out of the 10 points helping the 'Cats get to a 72 – 16 lead before Colby-Sawyer scored.
· O'Connor scored the last two points of the game with a jumper, leading the 'Cats to a win (83 – 24).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· UNH finished with the slight edge in both field goal percentage (50.0% to 22.2%) and 3-point field goal percentage (42.9% to 18.8%).
· UNH outscored the Chargers 10-5 in free throws.
· The Wildcats collected 40 rebounds compared to the Chargers' 24.
