DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) and senior Leah Glidden (Kittery, Maine) each scored a goal as the University of New Hampshire field hockey team fell to the University of Vermont, 3-2 in overtime, on Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.

Senior goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) was credited with four saves and classmate Jaiden Wittel (Stroudsbrug, Pa.) tallied an assist.

For Vermont, goalie Sierra Espeland recorded nine saves and Sophia Lefranc scored the game-winning goal at 69:53.

UNH's record falls to 6-7 overall, 5-2 at home and 2-3 in America East. Vermont moves to 10-3, 4-2.

UP NEXT

UNH continues its homestand Oct. 16 (1 p.m.) against Merrimack College.

FIRST QUARTER

New Hampshire produced an 8-0 shot advantage and ended the quarter leading 1-0.
UNH had three corners within a two-minute span and capitalized on the last one with Poulakis converting a penalty stroke at 8:59 with a shot into the upper-left corner..
UNH shut out Vermont with shots on goal, 6-0.

SECOND QUARTER

Vermont came out strong and scored at 15:47 on the team's first shot of the game by Lauren Schellhamer inside the left post.
Both UNH and Vermont had one shot on goal each in the second quarter.
The Wildcats and Catamounts remained tied 1-1 to end the half.

THIRD QUARTER

Both teams struggled with shots as UNH recorded two and Vermont three.
The score remained tied, 1-1.

FOURTH QUARTER

The fourth quarter started off with Woods recording two saves.
At 48:23, Glidden snuck the ball into the back of the cage with an assist from Wittel.
Vermont responded to UNH's goal at 49:20 on a penalty corner when Kate Hall redirected Kate Drees' direct shot from the top of the circle to tie the game 2-2.
The quarter ended in a tie to force overtime

OVERTIME

One minute into the extra session, Poulakis advanced into the circle from the left wing and lifted a shot that caromed off the post.
Lefranc capitalized on a transition opportunity to score the winning goal at 69:53.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

New Hampshire outshot Vermont 17-10 overall and 11-7 in shots on goal.
UNH also had a 4-3 advantage in penalty corners.

UNH NOTEBOOK

Poulakis' goal brings her season total to 10.
Poulakis is second in goals for UNH on the season and trails only classmate Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England)by one goal.
Glidden now has six goals and 12 points, both of which rank third on the team.
