Ross Records Eight Saves in 5-0 Loss to #14 Miami

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior goalkeeper Kerigan Ross (Baltimore, Md.) made eight saves but the 14th-ranked Miami University field hockey team scored two goals in the final three minutes to pull away for a 5-0 victory against the University of New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.
Ross stopped 4 of 5 shots on goal in the first quarter to keep the Wildcats within a goal and held the Redhawks scoreless in the third quarter with two saves in that 15-minute span. Freshman Dani Caron (Brentwood, N.H.) was credited with a defensive save.
Toto Scarlatti led Miami's offensive with two goals and an assist while Macarena Gonzalez stopped two shots to record the shutout.
UNH moves to 2-6 overall and Miami is 7-4.

FIRST QUARTER
- The visitors pressured in the opening minute of the game but Ross denied Justina Intzes' initial shot from the middle of the circle as well as her shot off the rebound.
- UNH earned a corner in the second minute. The battery of Addison MacNeil (Brentwood, N.H.) and Louette Petiet (Hoofddorp, Netherlands) set up the rising, hard shot off the stick of Abigail Johnson (Oxford, Pa.) that Gonzalez directed aside with a dive to her right
- Intzes broke the scoreless tie at 14:09 to give Miami a 1-0 lead.
SECOND QUARTER
- Scarlatti scored on the first shot of the second quarter to extend the Redhawks' lead to 2-0 at 17:55.
- The Wildcats generated a corner in the 21st minute, but this time the shot by Lara Pywell (London, England) was blocked by a charging defender.
- One minute later, the 'Cats pressured again and Emily Coughlin (Marshfield, Mass.) was denied deep on the right side by Gonzalez
- Miami had an untimed corner at the end of quarter. Malena Sabez's shot was blocked but led to another corner. Ross kept the margin at two goals by denying Scarlatti.
THIRD QUARTER
- In the 41st minute, Caron kept the 'Cats within two goals when she blocked as swept aside Scarlatti's shot that was heading into the left side of the cage.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Miami also scored on the first shot of the fourth quarter – also by Scarlatti – to build a 3-0 lead at 46:12.
- Finley Payne and Lucia Ventos scored goals 47 seconds apart – at 57:28 and 58:15, respectively – to push the lead to 5-0
- Ross was called upon to make one more save on a corner in the final minute.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Ross entered the weekend ranked No. 5 in the nation in saves per game (9.83).
- It was the first career defensive save for Caron and second defensive save of the season for the Wildcats.
- New Hampshire has played four nationally-ranked teams: #20 Saint Joseph's, #11UConn, #12 UMass and #14 Miami. (note: all rankings are at date of game)
