DURHAM, N.H. – Senior back Abigail Johnson (Oxford, Pa.) scored her first goal of the season in the University of New Hampshire field hockey team's 5-1 loss to Boston University at Memorial Field on Sunday afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Kerigan Ross (Baltimore, Md.) made four saves, including three in the third quarter. Senior Addison MacNeil (Brentwood, N.H.) and junior Elina Muijskens (Uitgeest, Netherlands) were credited with the assists on Johnson's goal.

Caroline O'Brien (two goals) and Lucy Johnson (goal, assist) led BU's attack while Anna Wilson made five saves.

UNH is now 1-5 and BU is 3-5.

UNH continues its four-game homestand Sept. 27 (12pm) against College of the Holy Cross.

FIRST QUARTER

UNH recorded a 2-1 shot advantage in the scoreless first quarter.

The Wildcats generated a penalty corner in the third minute. Johnson's initial shot off was blocked but Sophie Godwin (London, England) fired a shot off the rebound that was turned aside by Wilson.

SECOND QUARTER

Jenna Park scored on the first shot of the second quarter – a blast from the top-right of the circle – to give BU a 1-0 lead at 19:28.

Molly Driscoll extended the lead to 2-0 at 23:08 when she batted a high ball from the middle of the circle into the cage.

THIRD QUARTER

The Terriers recorded a 5-2 shot advantage in the scoreless third quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

BU converted a corner into a 3-0 lead at 46:23. The first shot by O'Brien was blocked but Johnson corralled the rebound in the middle of the circle and scored.
UNH also capitalized on a corner to score a goal and trim the deficit to 3-1 at 49:15. MacNeil inserted the ball to the top of the circle, where Muijskens stopped the ball for Abigail Johnson and she blasted a low shot that ricocheted off the top of Wilson's stacked leg pads into the cage.
The Wildcats continued to pressure and earned another corner in the 54^th minute. Johnson's direct shot from the top of the circle was stopped by Wilson this time. Becky Ward (Palmerston North, New Zealand) collected the rebound on the left side, where her first shot was blocked by a BU defender and second shot went wide of the near post.
UNH had a series of three successive corners in the 56^th minute, the first of which resulted in Johnson's direct shot stopped by Wilson.

O'Brien scored on penalty corners at 57:07 and 59:35 to cap the scoring.

UNH NOTEBOOK

Johnson scored her second career goal; the first tally was Aug. 27, 2023 against Michigan State.
It was the first assist of the season for MacNeil, who led the team in that stat a year ago.
Muijskens' assist marked her first point as a Wildcat.
