AMHERST, Mass. – Junior goalkeeper Kerigan Ross (Baltimore, Md.) matched her career high of 14 saves as the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was upended 6-0 by 12^th-ranked UMass at rainy Gladchuk Field on Sunday afternoon.

Ross made half of her 14 saves in the first nine minutes of the game. She had five saves in the fourth quarter.

UMass goalie Rozrie Mrzov was credited with four saves, three of which were in the last 2:30 of the game. Niamh McKenzie led the offense with two goals and an assist. Neva Eisenga finished with a goal and assist. The other goal scorers were Emily Barrett, Amber Fairon and Savannah Freeland.

UNH, playing its third nationally-ranked opponent in five games, moves to 1-4. UMass is 6-0.

UP NEXT

UNH returns to action Sept. 20 (12pm) for the home opener against Boston University.

FIRST QUARTER

Ross turned aside the first seven shots on goal, including two off the stick of Barrett on a penalty corner in the first minute of the game.
UMass took a 1-0 lead on Eisenga's direct shot low inside the left post at 10:02.

The Minutewomen extended the advantage to 2-0 when Cara Falconer's strike from the right wing was redirected by McKenzie at the near post and the ball ricocheted off Ross' blocker inside the right post at 11:18.

SECOND QUARTER

The offenses were limited to a total of one shot – and it was not on goal – in the second quarter.

THIRD QUARTER

Barrett corralled a crossing pass near the left post and lifted a shot inside the open near side of the cage for a 3-0 lead at 31:07.
UMass scored its second penalty-corner goal at 42:43 when Fairon blasted a hard shot from the top of the circle into the cage to push the advantage to four goals.

Elaina Muijskens (Uitgeest, Netherlands) generated a dangerous scoring opportunity in the closing seconds of the third quarter when she drove along the left end line and Mrzov made a sliding save at the near post as the ball went off the goalie's leg pads over the crossbar.

FOURTH QUARTER

McKenzie scored her second goal of the game at 49:00 and Freeland capped the scoring with 11 seconds remaining.
In the 58^th minute, UNH generated a corner that produced a shot on target by Abigail Johnson (Oxford, Pa.).

One minute later, UNH earned another corner. The initial shot by Lara Pywell (London, England) was stopped by Mrzov, who also denied Julianna Casucci (Uxbridge, Mass.) in front off the rebound.

UNH NOTEBOOK

Ross matched her career high of 14 saves established earlier this season against 11^th-ranked UConn.

She has made 10+ saves in four of five games this season.
