Post's Penalty-Stroke Goal Propels UNH Past Northeastern, 3-0

DURHAM, N.H. - Freshman Rosalie Post (The Hague, Netherlands) scored her first collegiate goal in the first quarter to spark the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Sunday's 3-0 victory against Northeastern University at Memorial Field.
Junior Tia Raspante (Sandwich, Mass.) posted her first goal of the season and junior Tori Palumbo (Ayer, Mass.) scored her first career goal off an assist from senior Conner Allen (Centreville, Md.), who picked up her first point as a UNH Wildcat.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) had one save to record her first career shutout.
Northeastern goalkeeper Erin Savage allowed three goals while posting five saves, four of which were in the first quarter.
UNH advances to 3-1 and is scheduled to play host to the University at Albany on March 19 (3 p.m.) at Memorial Field. NU is now 1-3.

1st Quarter

1st Quarter
- UNH's Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) had a shot at 4:24 that was saved by Savage.
- One minute later, Palumbo's shot was stopped by Savage.
- The Wildcats were awarded a penalty stroke at 5:58 and Post lifted a shot into the upper-left corner to give UNH a 1-0 lead.
- Woods made her first – and only -- save of the game on an attempt by Northeastern's Angela Connolly at 9:28.
- New Hampshire earned a penalty corner with four seconds on the clock and converted that opportunity into a goal and 2-0 lead.
- Savage made consecutive saves against senior captain Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) on the direct shot from the top of the circle as well as Post off the rebound, but Raspante corralled the second rebound in the middle of the circle and fired the ball into the cage.
- The first quarter ended with UNH holding a 9-1 shot advantage and 4-0 edge in penalty corners.

2nd Quarter
- In a relatively quiet second quarter, UNH had a 2-1 shot advantage and generated the only corner.
- In the 28th minute, a shot by UNH sophomore Molly McAteer (Annapolis, Md.) was blocked, but classmate Jaiden Wittel (Stroudsburg, Pa.) collected the rebound and fired a shot wide of the right post.
- UNH closed the half with a 2-0 lead against Northeastern.
3rd Quarter
- UNH was awarded its sixth corner of the game at 41:14 that resulted in Post's shot tailed wide left of the cage.
- That was the only shot and corner of the third quarter.
4th Quarter
- After a corner was awarded to Northeastern at 46:15, Lauren Alkire's shot from the top of the circle was blocked immediately by the charging Allen and UNH gained possession.
- In the 52nd minute, Woods charged off the goal line to make a diving tackle, then retreated to the end line to the right of the cage and made a sliding poke check to preserve the 2-0 lead.
- After dribbling coast to coast, Caron's shot was saved by Savage at 52:48.
- With a little more than five minutes left in regulation, UNH was awarded a corner. Freshman Lindsay Lee (Eindhoven, Netherlands) inserted a short corner to Allen, whose shot was redirected in by Palumbo for a 3-0 lead at 54:46.
- With two minutes remaining, UNH freshman Mari Shea (Hampstead, N.H.) ripped a shot that hit the right post.

Game Notebook
- UNH led Northeastern in shot attempts with a 15-3 advantage, while shots on goal were 8-1.
- UNH led NU in corners, 7-2.
UNH Notebook
- New Hampshire is 3-0 at home this season with two wins by shutout; the Wildcats were 6-0 victors against Merrimack College on March 3.
- Woods combined with redshirt freshman Nikki Tredwell (Hampton, N.H.) for that shutout.
- Woods has a 2-1 record with a 0.80 GAA and .846 save percentage in three games (all starts) this season.
- Raspante scored her fourth career goal with her first of the season and increased her career point total to seven.
- Post picked up her first collegiate goal and points on the penalty stroke tally. She finished with a game-high four shots (two on goal).
- Palumbo scored her first collegiate goal; she has three career points.
- Allen tallied her first assist and point as a Wildcat. She had one assist in two seasons at the University of Delaware.

Series Notebook
- New Hampshire has a 23-28-2 lifetime record against Northeastern.
- The Wildcats have won two straight in the series and seven of the last nine meetings.
- UNH has won six straight matchups at Memorial Field. The last time the Huskies left Durham with a win vs. the Wildcats was in the 2006 season.
- These teams did not meet in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
