DURHAM, N.H. -- Juniors Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany) and Meg Carroll (Havehill, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team were named America East Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
Metzler set new pool records in the 200 and 400 individual medley last weekend against Vermont. The All-American posted a 1:59.23 time in the 200 IM and a mark of 4:10.57 in the 400 IM. She wins the award for the seventh time in her Wildcat career, winning the award four times last season.
"The entire swimming and diving program is so proud of Anna," said UNH Head Coach Josh Willman. "The times she achieved last Saturday were no small feat. Most performances of that caliber are done in a state of the art aquatic center at the conference or national level in a natatorium filled with cheering fans and family members. We prepared Anna and set the bar for her knowing what she would need to do to quality for NCAA's. Her times now place her again in the top of the nation currently and we hope she is selected for NCAA's next week."
Carroll finished first in the one meter dive event with 208.42 points and she captured second place in the three meter dive (188.01) in the season opener against Vermont.
"It was a nice win for Meg, she had wrist surgery last year sitting out the season so off to a great start for her," remarked Willman. "Meg's a real hard worker so we're looking to see her do well moving forward."
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, March 6 for a dual meet against Maine at Swasey Pool.
