'Cats fall at dual meet on Saturday at Maine, 88-84

ORONO, Maine -- The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team fell at Maine in the season opener on Saturday, 88-84 at the Maine Field House.
"Even though we got beat, we had a really good performance ," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler. "I was excited about the competitiveness of both of our teams, we have a lot we can build around. It was good to get our there and compete."
Junior Saige Tudisco (Haverhill, Mass.) earned a first place finish in the long jump at a height of 18'00.50, while junior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) took home the gold in the shot put (41'03).
Lauren Dean (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) earned first in the mile run at 5:08.03 and Zakiya Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took home the top spot in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 1:00.78. Dean also took first in the 3000-meter run with a pace of 10:19.62.
Natalie Fraser (Gilford, N.H.) won the 500-meter run (1:20.95) and Silvia Caddell (Salem, N.H.) earned gold in the 1000-meter run at 2:54.53.Â
UNH won both relay events on the day, including the 4x400 (4:12.45) and 4x800 (9:47.55).
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, December 11 with a quad meet at Dartmouth with Vermont and Maine (12pm).
