Josiah Silver selected to Division I All-New England Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Freshman defensive end Josiah Silver (Hampton, Va.) of the University of New Hampshire football team was one of 33 players representing all 15 New England Division I football schools have been selected to the 2021 New England Football Writers Association All-New England Team. The team honors the best Division I FCS and FBS players by position in New England from the 2021 season. The Ivy League and Northeast Conference lead the team with eight players each.
Silver was one of five selections from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
Last week, he was named CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year in addition to being named a First-Team All-Conference selection and was named one of 23 finalsts for the Jerry Rice Award for the National Freshman of the Year Award.
Silver amassed 80 tackles (42 solo), 20.5 TFL (88 yards), 12.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 11 games for the Wildcats in his first full season in Durham. His 12.5 led all CAA players and ranked fourth among FCS players. His six forced fumbles led the CAA and were tied for second in the nation among FCS student-athletes.
He was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week for November 15 with a game-high 11 tackles, career-best of 5.0 TFL's and 4.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles in New Hampshire's setback at Rhode Island on November 13. He finished the last two games of the Wildcats' season with 23 total tackles, 8.0 TFL, 6.0 sacks and three forced fumbles.
The team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 9, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center. Reservations must be made no later than Friday, December 3, and may be made by clicking here. Tickets are $60/person and reservations are by credit card only.
