THE MATCHUP
New Hampshire and Merrimack College face off in a home-and-home series Jan. 22-23. The series opens with a Friday matinee (2 p.m.) at Lawler Rink and shift to UNH's Whittemore Center on Saturday night (7 p.m.). UNH has a 10-3-2 record against Merrimack that includes 2-0-1 last season, when the Wildcats swept a home-and-home series in December 2019 and skated to a 2-2 tie at Lawler Rink last February.
NATIONAL LEADERBOARD
Redshirt junior goalie Ava Boutilier is No. 2 in the nation in saves with 325; Holy Cross' Jada Brenon is atop the list with 338.
Freshman forward Nicole Kelly ranks 12th in freshmen points per game at 0.71; she has 10 points (3g, 7a) in 14 games and is one of just four rookies with double-digit points.
Junior Emily Rickwood is No. 20 in points per game for defensemen at 0.50 (seven points in 14 games).
HOCKEY EAST MAKES SCHEDULE ANNOUNCEMENT
In a decision aimed at allowing the maximum amount of games to be scheduled for each member school, Hockey East announced Jan. 19 that the previously released composite schedules for both the men and women's leagues will be set aside and the remainder of the 2020-21 season will continue to be scheduled on a weekly basis. The move comes with the objective to create as much variety and parity in the schedule as possible while adhering to all required health and safety protocols.
LEAGUE LEADERS
Emily Rickwood is atop the Hockey East leaderboard in blocked shots with 34; Maddie Truax ranks fourth with 25. Rickwood is also tied for fifth in defensemen scoring. Nicole Kelly is tied for the lead in rookie points (10) and ranks third in shots (55).
CLIMBING UNH'S CAREER LEADERBOARD
Redshirt junior goalie Ava Boutilier became the fourth player in UNH history to record 2,000 career saves with the ninth of her 11 saves Dec. 23 against Holy Cross.
Boutilier ascended two places to #2 on the all-time list in the Jan. 8-9 weekend series vs. Northeastern and enters the Merrimack series with 2,148 career saves. Jen Huggon (2000-03) holds the benchmark of 2,851.
Boutilier entered the Top 5 in career minutes Dec. 30 at Holy Cross. She enters the weekend at #4 with 4626:04. There is a significant jump to #3 on the list, Alicia Roberts (1998-2000) at 6526:33.
