Herrion Becomes UNH All-Time Wins Leader with 77-70 Victory at Maine

BANGOR, Maine -- University of New Hampshire head coach Bill Herrion became the winningest coach in program history Wednesday night by leading the Wildcats to a 77-70 victory against the University of Maine at Cross Insurance Center.
Herrion now has 186 wins to break the tie with Gerry Friel.
Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and game-high 11 rebounds. Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) scored a career-high 17 points; he also had five assists, three steals and three rebounds. Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) and Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) also scored in double digits with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Maine was led by Nedeljko Prijovic (18 points) and Sergio El Darwich (17).
UNH made 7 of 8 free throws in the final minute to win its third consecutive game, improve to 14-13 overall and 7-7 in America East. Maine is now 7-21, 3-11.

* Maine scored the first four points of the game, but UNH rallied to take a 9-6 lead at 15:44 on 3-pointers by Guadarrama, Maultsby and Martinez.
* The Black Bears responded with an 8-0 run to regain the lead, 14-8, at 12:37.
* Trailing 20-15, the Wildcats scored nine consecutive points to surge back in front 24-20 at 6:51. Maultsby ignited the run with a 3-pointer from the left corner and capped it with a steal and transition layup.
* Maine closed withing one point twice before Martinez hit a pair of free throws and then completed a three-point play to extend the margin to 33-28 at 2:14.
* The home team scored the last four points of the half to once again make it a one-point game, 33-32, heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF
* Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) hit a 3-pointer from the right corner to open the second-half scoring.
* Maine went on a 9-0 run to build a 41-36 lead at 16:36.
* Martinez's tip-in and Lester's three-point play tied the score, 41-41, at 14:52.
* Maine surged back in front, 49-41, at 12:28.
* Martinez and Guadarrama hit back-to-back 3-pointers to lift UNH within 53-52 at 9:39.
* Guadarrama's next 3-ball at 7:43 gave the Wildcats a 58-57 lead.

* Friel amassed 185 wins spanning 20 seasons (1970-89). Herrion is in his 15th season as New Hampshire head coach.
