Wildcats defeat Temple and finish runner-up to host Mountaineers
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Alyssa Worthington (West Warwick, R.I.) scored a career-high 9.900 on balance beam to win that event, and the UNH gymnastics team improved its score for the fourth straight meet with a season-high 195.125 to defeat Temple (191.925) and finish runner-up to host West Virginia (196.025) on Sunday at the WVU Coliseum.
UNH (3-2, 1-0 EAGL) had a strong balance beam effort with a season-best 49.150 to place first. Worthington's individual victory was supported by Emma Winer (Georgetown, Mass.) and Hailey Lui (Collegeville, Pa.), who tied for second place (9.825) with WVU's Abby Kaufman and Abbie Pierson.
"The beam lineup was outstanding," head coach Lindsey Bruck Ayotte said. "Alyssa had a beautiful beam set."
Kylie Gorgenyi (North Reading, Mass.) paced UNH on vault (9.775, T-4th) and uneven bars (PB 9.800, third).
"It was an interesting day with Lauren Diggan unfortunately sustaining an injury during warmups, so the team had to step up," Bruck Ayotte added. "We had great performances on beam and floor."
