Sophomore shares first on floor, second on beam in loss to Southern Utah

DURHAM, N.H.– Hailey Lui (Collegeville, Pa.) equaled her career high with a 9.875 on floor exercise to tie for first place in that event, and she shared second place on balance beam with a 9.825 to help the University of New Hampshire gymnastics team score a season-high 194.975 in a loss to Southern Utah University (195.400) on Saturday night at Lundholm Gym.

UNH slipped to 2-1 on the season, while SUU improved to 2-3.

Kylie Gorgenyi (North Reading, Mass.) matched her personal best with a 9.800 on vault to share first place, and the freshman set a new career benchmark on uneven bars (9.775, fifth place) to earn team-high honors on that apparatus.

Alyssa Worthington (West Warwick, R.I.) established a new personal best on beam with a 9.825 to tie Lui for runner-up to Southern Utah's Shlen Murakami (9.850).

"We had some really good highlights during the meet," head coach Lindsey Bruck Ayotte said. "We need to keep focusing on the details and really performing our routines. Our beam team did an amazing job tonight. Each meet we keep improving, and that's what we need to keep doing."

•The Wildcats return home to square off with EAGL rival Towson in a 7 p.m. dual meet at Lundholm Gym on Saturday, Feb. 1. There will be green "Own Your Roar" LED batons to light the gym in recognition of the mental health campaign designed by Towson gymnast Olivia Lubarsky.
•Fans will also have the opportunity to receive Wildcat Sophomore Gymnast Trading Cards during the post-meet autograph session.

First Rotation – Vault
•Gorgenyi anchored the lineup and topped the podium for the second straight week. Southern Utah's Caitlin Kho shared first place, followed by Lauren Diggan (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and SUU's Rachel Smith with matching marks of 9.775 (T-3^rd).

Second Rotation – Uneven Bars
•While Gorgenyi was the top-scoring Wildcat for the second straight rotation, the Thunderbirds registered the four highest scores on bars with Murakami (9.875), Karley McClain (9.850), Becky Rozsa (9.825) and Hannah Nipp (9.800). Clare Hampford (Trumbull, Conn.) and Riley Freehling (Southington, Conn.) tied for sixth place (9.700).

Third Rotation – Balance Beam
•All six Wildcats scored a 9.700 or higher. The Lui/Worthington runner-up tandem was supported by Hannah Baddick (Gettysburg, Pa.), who tallied a 9.800 to share fourth place with Nipp and McClain. Robyn Kelley (Wakefield, Mass.) set a career high with a 9.750 (T-7^th), Emma Winer (Georgetown, Mass.) hit for a 9.725 (ninth) and Freehling scored a 9.700 (10^th).

Fourth Rotation – Floor Exercise
•UNH finished strong with its highest event score of the meet. Four of the top five placements belonged to the home team, headlined by Lui's shared victory with Nipp. Kelley made it back-to-back career highs with a 9.850 that tied for third place with Winer. Ava Watkins (Cherry Hill,, N.J.) took fifth place with a 9.825, good for a three-way deadlock with SUU's McClain and Madison McBride.

McClain won the all-around with a 39.200, and Freehling finished second with a career-high 38.825.

NEXT UP– The Wildcats hit the road for a tri-meet at No. 24 West Virginia that also includes Temple on Sunday, Jan. 26 (2 p.m.) at WVU Coliseum.
