DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team faced Army West Point on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats closed out their non-conference schedule by defeating the Black Knights 1-0, by way of a Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) goal in the 23^rd minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) posted her second shutout of the season making six saves in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Black Knights had the first scoring chance of the afternoon when a handball call in the box sent Emily Torres to the penalty mark. Torres missed her shot wide left.
In the 17^th minute Liz Lane got a breakaway feed from Sofia Borea (Oakville, Ontario), into the box but the shot attempt was saved.
UNH struck first in the 23rd minute; Senior Caroline Wysocki (Agawam, Mass.) dribbled the ball up the right sideline and crossed the ball into the box. Liz Lane tipped the cross through the legs of the charging goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.
Lane tried for another goal in the 57^th minute as she dribbled past a defender in the box; after creating space, Liz attempted to beat the keeper's legs once again, but Army's Sydney Cassalia got enough of a block to clear the ball from danger.
Army had a chance to strike back in the 63^rd minute but the chip shot from Trinity Garay was just too high and bounded off the crossbar and was cleared away.
The Wildcats forced a Black Knight error in the final two minutes to regain possession and control the sideline, pushing Army back into its defensive zone.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

In the first half the Wildcat's were whistled for offsides four times in the first half, seven times total.
Liz Lane tallied three of UNH's four shots on net in the first half.
Army West Point outshot UNH overall in the contest with six shots on goal to New Hampshire's five.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

Lane's goal was her first of the season and the sixth of her career.
Sheppard's six saves on the afternoon tie her career high; she's tallied six saves in three contests this season.
UNH finishes the non-conference schedule with an even 4-4-0 record. It's the third time in the Welham era that the Wildcats have posted a .500-or-better record in non-conference play, and the third straight season.
- The first was 2017, a program-best 6-3-0 in non-conference play.
- Last year the Wildcats went 4-4-1 in non-conference play.
New Hampshire is now 3-1-0 at Wildcat Stadium this season, outscoring opponents 9-1.
This was UNH's first win of the season when scoring less than three goals. The other three wins came by scores of 3-0, 3-1, and 5-0.
