Marcus Vela has signed a contract with the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL.
Marcus Vela Off to Strong Start to Pro Career

SAN JOSE, Calif. - University of New Hampshire senior forward Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) has signed with the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Barracuda are the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Vela has played in five games so far with the Barracuda with two assists for two points. He tallied his first pro point with an assist in the 5-0 win over Ontario on March 29. Vela was selected in the seventh round (190th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks.
Vela played in 135 games with 24 goals and 34 assists for 58 career points at UNH. Vela won the Warren R. Brown Memorial Trophy in the 2017-2018 season which is presented to the best defensive forward on the team, while he also earned the Nate Hardy Ironman award this past season. Vela was a strong leader as demonstrated by being voted by his teammates as team captain his senior year.
