Men’s Hockey Falls to #7 Quinnipiac in Season Opener

HAMDEN, Conn. – Freshman forward Mason Zebeski (Oakville, Ontario) and senior assistant captain Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.) each scored for the Wildcats, but the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 7 Quinnipiac, 10-2, on Friday night at M&T Bank Arena in the season opener for both teams.
The Wildcats start the season 0-1-0, while the Bobcats begin 1-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bobcats took an early 1-0 lead at 2:29 of the first period when Ethan Wyttenbach scored glove side.
- Quinnipiac extended its advantage to 2-0 as Alex Kostov knocked in the puck glove side at 6:02.
- Dylan Edwards found the back of the net on a one-timer from the slot at 10:54 for a 3-0 lead.
- Matthew Lansing then made the score 4-0 with a breakaway goal at 13:55.
- Twenty-six seconds after the opening faceoff of the second period, Braden Brace netted Quinnipiac's fifth straight goal.
- Zebeski scored his first collegiate goal at 13:33 when he knocked in a loose puck from right in front of the net. Sophomore forward Félix Gagnon (Jonquière, Quebec) and sophomore forward Jacob Newcombe (Sambro, Nova Scotia) each posted an assist.
- After Chris Pelosi scored on a rebound to increase the lead to 6-1, Ring made it a 6-2 contest with his first goal of the season at 17:01 of the second period with a breakaway goal on the power play. Sophomore defenseman Conner de Haro (Raleigh, N.C.) tallied an assist.
- Just 19 seconds later, Wyttenbach recorded his second goal of the night.
- Mason Marcellus posted a power play goal at the start of the third period for the final goal of the night.
- Third-period goals by Mason Marcellus, Parker Alcos and Pelosi made it a 10-2 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- QU outshot UNH, 35-23.
- The Wildcats went 1-3 on the power play, while the Bobcats went 2-5.
- Senior goalie Michael Simpson (London, Ontario) made 16 saves and sophomore Teagan Kendrick (St. Albert, Alberta) recorded nine. Christian Kirsch tallied 21 saves to earn the win.
