NHL Update-Four Wildcats Playing at the Highest Level

Four former UNH Wildcats are currently playing in the National Hockey League. Forward James van Riemsdyk is a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, while defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk, defenseman Brett Pesce and forward Warren Foegele are all teammates on the Carolina Hurricanes.
Here is an update with games played through Dec. 23, 2019:
JAMES VAN RIEMSDYK

van Riemsdyk has played in all 37 games this season and he leads the Flyers with 12 goals. He also has 11 assists for 23 points. van Riemsdyk has the most career NHL goals (240) and points (464) of any UNH Wildcat. He also has 224 assists. van Riemsdyk is currently in his 11th NHL season and his fifth with Philadelphia. He also played six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. van Riemsdyk has appeared in 59 career playoff games with 18 goals and 11 assists for 29 points. He competed in the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals with the Flyers. He was drafted by Philadelphia in the first round as the second overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft. van Riemsdyk posted 28 goals and 46 assists for 74 points from 2007-2009 at UNH.
TREVOR VAN RIEMSDYK

van Riemsdyk has three assists for three points this season in 23 games played with the Hurricanes. He has 14 goals and 50 assists for 64 career points over 338 games. van Riemsdyk is currently in his sixth NHL season. He played three seasons with Chicago and is now in his third with Carolina. van Riemsdyk won the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2015. He has appeared in 24 playoff games with one goal. He posted 16 goals and 59 assists for 75 points from 2011-2014 at UNH and was a first team All-American in 2013.
BRETT PESCE

Pesce has played in all 37 games this season with three goals and eight assists for 11 points. He has 19 goals and 76 assists for 95 career points over 326 games. Pesce has played all five of his NHL seasons for the Hurricanes. Pesce has appeared in 110 games at UNH from 2012-2015 with 11 goals and 32 assists for 43 points. Last year, he tallied six assists for six points over 15 playoff games. He was selected in the third round by Carolina as the 66th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft after his freshman season.
WARREN FOEGELE

Foegele has appeared in all 37 games this season with six goals and 10 assists for 16 points as he is currently in his third season in the NHL with Carolina. He has 18 goals and 16 assists for 34 points over 116 contests. Last season, he posted five goals and four assists for nine points over 15 games during the NHL Playoffs. Foegele tallied five goals and 12 assists for 17 points as a Wildcat from 2014-2015. He was selected by Carolina in the third round of the 2014 NHL Draft as the 67th overall pick.
The Wildcats have five NHL Draft picks on the 2019-20 roster. Angus Crookshank and Ty Taylor were picked in the 2018 NHL Draft. Crookshank was drafted in the fifth round by the Ottawa Senators and was the 126th overall pick. Taylor was selected in the seventh round by the Tampa Bay Lightning and was the 214th overall pick. Juniors Max Gildon, Benton Maass and Mike Robinson are also draft picks. Robinson (86th) was taken in the 2015 Draft by the San Jose Sharks, while in 2017, Gildon (66th) was picked by the Florida Panthers and Maass (182nd) was selected by the Washington Capitals.
UP NEXT: The Wildcats will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 29, when they travel to West Point, N.Y., to play Army West Point at 4 p.m. at Tate Rink.
