HIGHLIGHTS:
- Soucy tallied her new career-high nine made field goals, three of them from behind the arc, and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Soucy also grabbed five rebounds and two steals.
- Fellow senior Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) followed up that effort with 16 points of her own, along with a team-leading six boards, two steals, and two blocks in the contest.
- The Wildcats also got a pair of seven-point performances by junior Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) and sophomore Ivy Gogolin
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UNH opened up the game with a quick 4-1 lead but a 10-2 run by the Crusaders gave them a five point lead, 11-6 at the first media break.
- In the final minute of the first quarter Holy Cross increased its lead to 15 points at 25-10.
- The Wildcats tried to close the gap in the second quarter but were just outscored by the Crusaders 19-15. UNH stole some momentum in the waning minute of the quarter on a steal and score by Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-les-Bains, France) with the shot clock off, and a defensive stop by the Wildcats on the ensuing Holy Cross possession to keep the score 44-25 at halftime.
- Down by 20 points in the third quarter the 'Cats attempted to mount a rally; off a defensive rebound by Ashley Storey, she passed up-court to a breaking Caroline Soucy who drew a foul on her fast-break layup, completed the three-point play, and then on the very next possession buried a quick corner three-pointer. Soucy tallied nine points in the span of two minutes to cut the lead to 53-39.
- Despite outscoring the Crusaders 23-19 in the third quarter, the Wildcats couldn't cut the lead any shorter in the fourth quarter as Holy Cross closed out the game with a 19-13 fourth quarter scoring margin.
