10/24/2019 12:56:00 PM | Men's Cross Country
One week remains before the America East championship meet.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's cross country team is coming off a big team win at the Fall Foliage Invitational hosted by Vermont, and are looking towards the America East conference championship meet hosted next Saturday, November 2 at UAlbany.
The Wildcats will send a small squad of five runners down to Central Connecticut State for the annual CCSU Mini Meet, to compete in a 5k race. The meet kicks off in New Britain, Connecticut at 3:30 P.M.
MEET INFO:
Date: October 25, 2019 – 3:30 P.M.
Location: Stanley Quarter Park – New Britain, Conn.
Distance: 5k
LAST TIME OUT:
Senior Nicolas Sevilla-Connelly (Chester, N.H.) took first overall at the Fall Foliage Invitational hosted by Vermont as the Wildcats' men's cross country team took first overall with a score of 36.
Sevilla-Connelly led the way finishing the 8k course a full 14 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack, finishing first overall with a time of 24:33.4.
Sevilla-Connelly was the first of four Wildcat runners that finished in the top 10, the other three being junior James Wilkes (Concord, N.H.), in fourth, freshman Forest MacKenzie (Deerfield, N.H.) in fifth, and junior Aidan Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.) in eighth.
RANKED IN THE REGION:
After their win at the Fall Foliage Invitational, the Wildcats find themselves back in the top 15 of the USTFCCCA Northeast Region poll for the second time this season. The Wildcats made the top-15 for the first time since 2015 earlier this season after their performance at the Coast to Coast Invitational, moving all the way up to #13. After falling out of the top-15, the 'Cats are back in at #15 following the win at Vermont.
FROM THE COACH:
"Last week was a good build up to conference. Most of [our recent success] is that the athletes are having an epiphany about being a team, its much nicer to be running as a team. The last few years it felt like everyone was counting down to track, now everyone wants to see this team go well into November."
