Ireland the Top Finisher for Wildcats at Paul Short Meet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 45th Annual Paul Short Run was hosted by Lehigh this Saturday, September 29, and featured top level cross country talent from across the country. The University of New Hampshire cross country squads took that challenge head on in the men's and women's Gold races.
The men's squad took 34th overall with a team score of 953. A total of 360 runners took part in the men's Gold race. The top finisher for New Hampshire was Maxwell Ireland. Ireland took 168th place with a finishing time of 26 minutes, seven seconds, beating his time in the Coast to Coast 8K race by 15 seconds. Ireland was followed by two more 'Cats in the 180s, seniors Davis Clark (Manchester, N.H.) and Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) who took 181st and 188th respectively. Clark finished in 26:12, and Hoerner posted a time of 26:16.
The men's Gold race was won by Utah State with a team score of 77 points, beating out 40 other collegiate teams.

THE 45th PAUL SHORT RUN:
The Paul Short Run, which is the largest intercollegiate cross country meet in the nation, gets set for its 45th iteration this Saturday. The meet features over 450 athletes from colleges and high schools across America, leading up to the men's and women's collegiate gold races and the men's and women's open races. The Wildcats will be competing in the men's and women's Gold races.

The Wildcats are gearing up for championship season, beginning with the New England Championships next Saturday, October 6 at Franklin Park in Boston. The following weekend both squads will travel down to the CCSU Mini Meet on October 19, ahead of the 2018 America East Championships hosted by UMass Lowell in Nashua, N.H. on Saturday, October 27.

- Junior Nicolas Sevilla-Connelly (Chester, N.H.) took 199th in 26:21.
- Senior Dean Yost (Canton, Conn.) finished in 217th with a time of 26:35.
- Senior William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.) took 244th with a time of 26:58.
- Junior Jack Crawford (Mansfield, Mass.) rounded out the top Wildcat finishers in 248th place, finishing in 27:02.
