Wildcats Head Back to Franklin Park for New England Championships

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's and women's cross country teams head down to Boston for their second race of the year at Franklin Park, the 2018 New England Cross Country Championships.
The men's team is coming off a 12th place finish in last year's New England championships, with the only returning scorer from last year's race Davis Clark (Manchester, N.H.) leading the way. He'll be joined by senior captain Dean Yost (Canton, Conn.), freshman standout Maxwell Ireland, and senior Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.).
MEET DETAILS:
Date: October 6, 2018
Location: Franklin Park – Jamaica Plain, Mass.
Distance: Men's Race – 8K
Start Time: Men's Varsity – 12:30 P.M.
LAST TIME OUT:
The men's squad took 34th overall in the Paul Short Invitational with a team score of 953. A total of 360 runners took part in the men's Gold race. The top finisher for New Hampshire was Maxwell Ireland. Ireland took 168th place with a finishing time of 26 minutes, seven seconds, beating his time in the Coast to Coast 8K race by 15 seconds. Ireland was followed by two more 'Cats in the 180s, seniors Davis Clark and Brett Hoerner who took 181st and 188th respectively. Clark finished in 26:12, and Hoerner posted a time of 26:16. The men's Gold race was won by Utah State with a team score of 77 points, beating out 40 other collegiate teams.
UP NEXT:
After a week off, two important weekends are upcoming for the Wildcats: The CCSU Mini Meet, a sort of tune-up meet for the championship races, takes place next Friday, October 19 at 3 P.M. at Central Connecticut. The following weekend is the 2018 America East Cross Country Championships, hosted by UMass Lowell in Nashua, N.H. The race will take place Saturday, October 27 at 10 A.M.
