Ireland Leads 'Cats in New England Championships

The Wildcats finished took 13th in the teams standings.
BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire men's and women's cross country teams took on the rest of the region at the 2018 New England (NEICAAA) cross country championships on Saturday afternoon.
The men's team finished 13th out of 26 teams with a team score of 296, while the women's team finished fourth out of 24 teams, scoring 127 team points.
On the men's side, the Wildcats were led by Maxwell Ireland finishing in 31st with a time of 25 minutes, 46.13 seconds. The time was a new personal best for the break-out freshman, improving on his old 8k time by just over 30 seconds.
The men's race was won by UMass, with a team score of 84. The top finisher in the race was American International's Leaky Kipkosgei; his finishing time was 24:08.79.

After a week off, two important weekends are upcoming for the Wildcats: The CCSU Mini Meet, a sort of tune-up meet for the championship races, takes place next Friday, October 19 at 3 P.M. at Central Connecticut. The following weekend is the 2018 America East Cross Country Championships, hosted by UMass Lowell in Nashua, N.H. The race will take place Saturday, October 27 at 10 A.M.

- Dean Yost (Canton, Conn.) followed closed behind in 45th with a time of 25:57.54, setting a new personal best in the 8k.
- Jack Crawford (Mansfield, Mass.) also set a new personal best, finishing in 74th with a finishing time of 26:23.72.
- Matthew Walker posted his second 8k time of his career, setting a new personal best in 26:54.8 as he finished 102nd.
