Lane Lifts ‘Cats Over Pioneers, 1-0

Lane’s third career goal was the difference against Sacred Heart.
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team closed out the non-conference part of their schedule with a 1-0 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon.
New Hampshire's goal came from junior Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) in the 14th minute, and the Wildcats were able to hold on and prevent Sacred Heart from getting clean scoring opportunities. Grad. student Mia Neas (Old Saybrook, Conn.) saved the only Pioneer shot on net for her first shutout of the season.
The Wildcats return to action next Sunday, September 23 as they open up America East play against the UMBC Retrievers at Bremner Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats put pressure on the Pioneers early, earning a corner kick in the first five minutes of the game, two total in the first 10.
- The Pioneers would answer back with scoring opportunities of their own, the one on net was saved by Neas.
- New Hampshire was able to get on the board early, as Liz Lane tallied her first of the season 13:02 into the game, to put the 'Cats on top 1-0.
- UNH maintained pressure throughout the rest of the half, outshooting SHU 13-5.
- New Hampshire came out firing in the second, tallying six shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the half.
- With New Hampshire preserving a lead, and Sacred Heart trying to get more scoring opportunities, the game of possession began, and neither team was able to record a shot from the 79th minute to the 83rd.
- The Pioneers had one more shot with just 34 seconds left, but Emily Rosso's shot sailed high for a goal kick, ending the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- New Hampshire committed no fouls in the second half, four total on the afternoon.
- New Hampshire outshot Sacred Heart 27-12 in the game, 12-1 in shots on goal.
- Ally Reynolds (Weymouth, Mass.) led the team with four shots on goal on five total shots.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Liz Lane tallied her third career goal in the contest. Lane's first two goals came in her freshman season.
- Neas' shut out was the seventh of her career.
- The Wildcats close out non-conference play with a 4-4-1 record; last season they had a program-best 6-3-0 non-conference record.
- 27 total shots is the most UNH has had since August 18 of last season, when they tallied 26 against LIU Brooklyn.
- The Wildcats are now 3-0-1 on the road and 4-1-0 in games that end in a one-goal margin.
