Ogwuche, Leissner Score 12 Apiece in 71-58 Loss at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – John Ogwuche (Makurdi, Nigeria) and Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) scored 12 points apiece in the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team's 71-58 loss to the University of Vermont at Patrick Gym on Thursday night.
Ogwuche finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Leissner had 12 points, six rebounds and two steals. Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) recorded double digits in rebounds for the sixth consecutive game with 10; he also had eight points.
Cam Ward (14 points), Duncan Everett (13) and Drew Urquhart (13) were UVM's top scorers. Trae Bell-Haynes was limited to 20 minutes because of foul trouble and finished with nine points.
UNH is now 10-17 overall and 6-7 in America East. Vermont improves to 22-5, 12-0.

- The Wildcats hit the road again Feb. 18 (2 p.m.) at Stony Brook University.

THE DIFFERENCE
- A layup by Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) gave UNH a 47-43 lead at 14:10 of the second half, but the Wildcats were held without a field goal the next 10 minutes, 50 seconds and UVM built a 64-51 lead with 3:30 remaining.
GAME RECAP
- There were five ties and seven lead changes in a back-and-forth first half.
- With UNH trailing 7-5, Ogwuche and Reed hit consecutive 3-pointers to give the Wildcats an 11-7 lead.
- The teams traded scores until UVM made back-to-back field goals to go back in front, 17-16 at 10:38.
- Evan Horn (Lebanon, Pa.) answered with a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put New Hampshire in front 19-17. The Catamounts responded with four straight points to go back ahead, 21-19, at 8:00.
- With UNH trailing 24-21, Leissner's three-point play ignited an 8-0 run that included a 3-pointer and layup by Ogwuche and gave UNH a 29-24 lead at 4:46.
- Vermont scored five consecutive points to level the score at 29, then the Wildcats regained the lead, 33-29, on a pair of Camara free throws and a layup by Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.).
- UVM scored the last four points of the half to send the teams to the locker room tied at 33.
- The Catamounts scored on the opening possession of the second half, but a transition layup by Reed sparked UNH's 7-0 run that gave the visiting 'Cats a 40-35 lead at 16:04.
- The teams exchanged scores to push the score to 47-43 in favore of New Hampshire, but that's when the Wildcats went on the aforementioned field goal drught.
- Vermont trailed 48-46 but reeled off 14 consecutive points to take a 60-48 lead at 6:51.
- Camara hit a pair of foul shots to end the run and trim the deficit to 60-50 at 5:21, but UNH never got within single digits the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UVM recorded a 43-32 rebounding advantage.
- The Catamounts shot 42.9% from the floor in comparison to UNH's 32.8%.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Camara increased his school record for career rebounds to 980.
- He also moved into a tie for No. 2 on the career games played list (118).
- Leissner increased his career points record to 1,884. He also extened his UNH career benchmarks in FTs made (513) and attempted (664), as well as minutes played (3,946).
- Leissner is tied for No. 4 on the career games played list with 117.
- He has scored 503 points this season.
