Lai (20), Pogue (17) Pace 'Cats in Setback at Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) scored 20 points and senior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 17, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team came up short in a game at the University of Albany, 66-53, on Saturday in SEFCU Arena.
UNH is now 10-5 overall for the season and 1-1 in America East play. Albany is 12-3 overall and also 1-1 in the league.
It was a clash between last year's America East regular season champion in UNH and the league's tournament champion in Albany. The Great Danes led 44-41 entering the fourth quarter and then pulled away.
Senior guard Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) had eight points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats. Pogue and senior forward Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) each had seven rebounds.

The Wildcats play at Binghamton on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
UNH's next home game is Monday, Jan. 15 against UMass Lowell at 1 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
The Wildcats held their own on the boards against one of the best rebounding teams in the league. UNH had 35 rebounds to Albany's 34.
UNH made 17 of its 20 foul shots for an 85 percent shooting day at the line. Pogue hit seven of her nine free throws and Lai was four-for-five. Healy, senior guard Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) and sophomore guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) each made both of their foul shots.
Healy, Pogue and Fogarty each blocked a pair of Albany shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team had more than a four-point lead through a back-and-forth first half.
At the break, the Great Danes were on top 32-31. Pogue had 11 points in the first half for the Wildcats. They owned a 20-14 edge in rebounds through the first 20 minutes and had made 11 of their 13 foul shots.
The Great Danes opened up a 40-31 lead with 4:59 to go in the third period. A 10-4 UNH run to the end of the period left it 44-41 with a quarter to go.
A Lai basket made it 47-43 with 9:11 to play, but the Great Danes scored the next six points and began to pull away.
