Mulligan, Lauter, Pflieger Earn First-Place Scores as Wildcats total 195.075

RALEIGH, N.C. – Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) won the uneven bar championship while Casey Lauter (Northport, N.Y.) and Meghan Pflieger (Barneveld, N.Y.) shared the balance beam title to propel the University of New Hampshire gymnastics team to a runner-up finish (195.075) at the 2017 East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championship, which was held Saturday at Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of North Carolina State University.

The Wildcats made it three straight years as the runner-up, as 18^th-ranked George Washington won its second EAGL Championship in three years with a 196.275.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(Rotation 1) Floor Exercise
The Wildcats scored a 48.600 in the opening rotation on floor, with Nicole O'Leary (Newtown, Conn.) setting the pace with a 9.825 to tie for 11^th place (All-Tournament Second Team). It marked the first time all season the sophomore registered the Wildcats' outright top floor score and her third straight 9.800-plus tally in that event. Her score was good for first place through the first three rotations. Pflieger finished with a 9.775 (T-19^th).

(Rotation 2) Vault
O'Leary and Pflieger once again led the way in the second rotation with matching scores of 9.750 on vault (T-13^th) to each earn All-Tournament Second Team honors. The Wildcats totaled a 48.550 for a two-rotation score of 97.50 headed into a bye. UNH was in second place behind GWU (98.025).

(Rotation 3) Bye
During UNH's bye, Pittsburgh (97.375) edged past the 'Cats into second place.

(Rotation 4) Uneven Bars
Mulligan, EAGL's No-1 ranked uneven bar competitor, lived up to expectations with a superb routine that netted her a 9.875 for the outright title and a spot on the All-Tournament First Team. Senior co-captains Pflieger and Jennifer King (Freehold, N.J.) tied for 10^th place (All-Tournament Second Team) with matching marks of 9.750, and the Wildcats' 48.625 on bars temporarily lifted the team into first place (145.775) over N.C. State (145.050) more than midway through the meet.

(Rotation 5) Balance Beam
On balance beam, Pflieger set a season high and Lauter, EAGL's No.-2 ranked beam competitor, matched her top season mark for the co-championship. Riley Freehling (Southington, Conn.) scored a 9.850 to equal her personal best for a share of eighth place and All-Tournament First Team honors, and the Wildcats posted their top apparatus score of the meet with a 49.300.

(Rotation 6) Bye
The Wildcats finished with a 195.075 for second place behind George Washington (196.275), which also had a bye in the final rotation.

The Wildcats will gather to watch the NCAA Gymnastics Championship Selection Show on Monday, March 20, at 4 p.m. exclusively on NCAA.com to learn which NCAA Regional site they are headed for in what will be the program's 34^th Regional berth in the 36 years of NCAA sponsorship of women's gymnastics. NCAA Regionals feature the Top 36 teams in the nation divided into six teams competing at six regional sites Saturday, April 1. Regional sites are the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville), University of Florida (Gainesville), University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), University of Nebraska (Lincoln), University of Washington (Seattle) and West Virginia University (Morgantown).
