UNH gears up for the 2017 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship, hosted by North Carolina State, on Saturday, March 18 (2 p.m.). The Wildcats will take on N.C. State, George Washington, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Towson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•The Wildcats started the meet on uneven bars, where Pflieger matched her personal best to lead a 48.700 team tally. Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored a 9.775 (T-7th), which ended her season-long streak of 10 meets with at least a 9.800 on bars. LSU edged UNH on bars, 49.375-48.700.
•In the second rotation, Marissa Toci (Mount Laurel, N.J.) spearheaded the Wildcats' vault lineup with a 9.800 (7th), which marked the fifth time this season she eclipsed that mark. The 'Cats totaled a 48.725 on vault. The Tigers notched the top six individual vault scores --including a trio of 9.900 scores-- en route to a 49.425.
•UNH picked up the pace in the third rotation with a consistent lineup combining for a 48.900 on floor exercise. Doolin led a quartet of 9.800-or-above scorers with a fourth-place finish. Lia Breeden (York, Pa.), Lexi Calandra (Suffern, N.Y.) and Emma Winer (Georgetown, Mass.) each hit for a 9.800. For Winer, it matched a personal best (Feb. 24 vs. Air Force) in only her third collegiate meet in the floor lineup. LSU scored a 49.525 on floor.
•The 'Cats saved their best for last, powering their way to a 48.975 on balance beam in the fourth and final rotation. Lauter (6th) led the effort, followed by Mulligan's 9.825 (8th) and a 9.800 (9th) from Breeden, who was the only Wildcat to score a 9.800 or above in two events.
•Pflieger (39.000/3rd) and Doolin (38.200/4th) each competed all-around for the Wildcats.
•LSU's Ashleigh Gnat, the nation's top-ranked vault competitor (9.955 Regional Qualifying Score), tied for the top score (9.900) with teammates Myia Hambrick and Sydney Ewing. Gnat placed second (9.900) on bars, tied for first (9.950) on beam, shared the floor championship (9.950) with Hambrick and captured the all-around crown (39.700). Hambrick was runner-up in AA (39.625).
WHAT COACH GAIL GOODSPEED SAID
"This was great preparation for EAGLs, competing in front of a large crowd with lots of noise. We held our own with the No. 2 team in the country. We were able to have five counting hit sets on each event. Judging was a little tighter, but the team didn't let it affect them."
