The No. 21/20 UNH football team received 1 of 14 at-large berths to the NCAA Division I FCS Championship to extend the national-best streak to 14 consecutive years.
New Hampshire enters the tournament with a 7-4 overall record that includes 5-3 in the CAA and 5-0 at home.
CCSU ended the regular season with a program-record eight-game winning streak to carry an 8-3 overall record into the NCAA playoffs. CCSU are 3-2 on the road. The Blue Devils, who are making their first NCAA postseason appearance, finished the NEC with a perfect 6-0 mark.
New Hampshire has an 8-0 lifetime record against Central Connecticut State University and that includes four wins in the Coach Mac era. UNH prevailed 57-14 at Cowell Stadium (now Wildcat Stadium) in the most recent matchup Sept. 26, 2015.
Saturday's NCAA first round game will be the first postseason matchup between UNH and CCSU.
UNH has a 5-5 postseason record at Cowell Stadium/Wildcat Stadium, including 4-2 the past three years.
Stats announced that UNH junior wide receiver Neil O'Connor is one of 25 finalists for the 2017 Walter Payton Award, which is presented annually to the top offensive player in the FCS.
O'Connor was named to the CAA Football First Team Offense to highlight a total of six players who were honored by the conference on Nov. 21. Senior center Jake Kennedy was voted to the Second Team Offense while sophomore linebacker Quinlen Dean and senior defensive lineman Rick Holt were Second Team Defense selections. Junior quarterback Trevor Knight was a Third Team Offense honoree and sophomore cornerback Prince Smith, Jr. was named Third Team Defense.
Dean recorded his 100th tackle of the season with the 14th of his career-high 15 tackles in the Nov. 18 regular-season finale at UAlbany.
Since the start of the 2007 season, UNH has a 56-8 record at home for an .875 win percentage. New Hampshire is 5-0 in The Dungeon this season and, dating back to last year, has won six consecutive home games.
