HANOVER, N.H. – Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) recorded a goal and an assist but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 4-3 by Dartmouth College at Chase AstroTurf Field on Wednesday afternoon.

UNH, which recorded a 23-10 shot advantage, is now 5-10. Dartmouth improved to 5-9.

Gianna Bensaia (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) Rachel Bossi (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored the Wildcats' other two goals and Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia) was credited with a defensive save.

The Big Green was led offensively by Morgan Philie (one goal, three assists), Gemma Bautista (2g), Katie Spanos (1g, 1a) and Sarah Tabeek (2a).

GAME RECAP

UNH dominated the opening 22 minutes of the game and took a 1-0 lead on van den Brekel's fifth goal of the season when she blasted a shot from the middle of the circle into the cage at 6:12.
Dartmouth goalkeeper Emily Wechsler made five saves the next 14 minutes to keep the Big Green within one goal.
The Wildcats were awarded a penalty stroke at 21:58 but missed the cage to keep the score 1-0.
Bautista leveled the score at 23:50 and DC took a 2-1 lead into halftime when Philie scored on an untimed penalty corner at the end of the first half.
Bensaia roofed a backhander at 49:39 to tie the score at 2-2.
Spanos and Bautista scored goals 1:44 apart – at 58:11 and 59:55 – to build a 4-2 advantage.
Bossi trimmed the deficit to one goal, 4-3, with 1:22 remaining.

With the three-point performance, van den Brekel increased her rookie point total to 16 points. She has a team-high six assists and ranks second in both goals (five) and points.
UNH starting goalie Kelsey Rudert (North Grafton, Mass.) exited the game with the 'Cats trailing 4-2 at 63:01; she made two saves.
Madelyn McAteer (Annapolis, Md.) played the final 6:59 and did not face a shot on goal.
