Johnson Records Career-High 12 Saves in 2-0 Loss at Maine

ORONO, Maine – Freshman goalkeeper Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) recorded a career-high 12 saves but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 2-0 by the University of Maine in Friday afternoon's Border Battle, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, at the Maine Field Hockey Complex.
Johnson, the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week, made six of her 12 saves in the third quarter.
Maine goalie Jayde Temby was credited with five saves. Saylor Keufler and Eloise Penty scored second-half goals to lift the Black Bears to victory.
UNH, which entered the game on a three-game winning streak, ends the regular season at 9-9 overall and 4-2 in America East with its third consecutive win. Maine is now 10-8, 3-3.

- UNH has secured the No. 2 seed of the upcoming America East Championships, which will be played Nov. 7-10 at UAlbany.
- The Wildcats play a Nov. 8 (11 a.m.) semifinal against the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 matchup.
- The America East title game is Nov. 10 at 12 p.m.

- Maine recorded a 6-1 shot advantage, including 4-1 on goal, and a 3-1 edge in penalty corners in the scoreless first quarter.
- Johnson came off the line to deny Kate Richardson on a breakaway in the 13th minute. On the restart, Johnson also turned aside a shot by Kuefler.

- Both teams generated three shots and two corners in the scoreless second quarter. UNH put all three shots on goal while the Black Bears had one.

- Maine parlayed an 8-2 shot advantage and 4-1 edge in corners in the third quarter into a 1-0 lead.
- The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead at 41:31 when Richardson's shot from the top right of the circle bounced toward the near post, and then Keufler scooped the ball high over Johnson and the ball bounced into the cage.

- The home team recorded the only two shots in the final 15 minutes.
- Penty scored off a direct shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner to give Maine a 2-0 lead at 53:56.

- UNH had shut out each of the last previous three opponents with a 15-0 scoring margin.
- Johnson extended her shutout streak to 190 minutes, 57 seconds before allowing a goal in the 42nd minute.
- Johnson surpassed her previous career high of seven saves established Sept. 22 against nationally-ranked Boston College

- Maine finished with the advantage in shots (19-6), shots on goal (14-5) and corners (11-4).
