Wildcats Defeat Great Danes on Senior Day, 3-0

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team hosted the Albany Great Danes for Senior Day, as the Wildcats took down the Great Danes by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Goals came from freshman Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y.) scoring her third of the season, senior Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) scoring her seventh, and sophomore Kaylan Williams (Marion, Ind.) tallying her fourth of the season, less than a minute after Murphy.
UNH's senior class of seven members all saw playing time in the contest, with Murphy and Veronica Hardy (North Smithfield, R.I.) tallying points in the contest. Senior 'keeper Mia Neas (Old Saybrook, Conn.) made three saves and posted her fifth shut out of the season, the win puts her at a 9-3-0 record.
UP NEXT:
UNH remains at home to host the Maine Black Bears on Thursday, October 5 at 7 p.m. They will then take a two-game conference road trip, visiting Stony Brook on October 8 at 1 p.m. to face off with the Seawolves, and on October 12 the 'Cats will face the Hartford Hawks at 6 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the second minute, Neas made a diving stop, collecting a dangerous attack in the box which could've led to an early Great Danes lead.
- Picicci had a good chance to set something up across the box in the fourth minute, but no one could follow up with a shot as it sailed through to the other side.
- The first half remained relatively calm, with only three shots on goal per team.
- The fifteenth minute saw a strong scoring chance by Caroline Wysocki (Agawam, Mass.) off a corner kick, but it was just high, as it barley missed the crossbar.
- Another close chance came in the 36th minute, as Gaby Dorsey (Hubertus, Wisc.) had a shot on net but missed it just wide.
- In the 56th minute Albany had a fast break chance as Meghan Malone had the ball one on one with Wysocki, who was able to disposes her and stop the Albany rush.
- The Wildcats would shoot 13 shots in the second half, with eight of them on net, as the turned up the pressure.
- The first goal came on a left side rush by Picicci in the 66th minute, who beat a defender and sailed the ball from left to right over the opposing keeper Andrea Leitner. Picicci was assisted by Sofia Borea (Oakville, Ontario) as the 'Cats took a 1-0 lead.
- In the 81st minute the 'Cats tallied two more quick goals.
- The first came from Murphy, who got a pass through two defenders from Dorsey, and just tapped the ball to the right of the charging Leitner, and into the back of the net.
- Just 45 seconds later, Williams got a feed from Hardy in the box and put a hard shot into the back of the net for a 3-0 UNH lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Neas' three saves were enough to earn her second shutout in a row, the second time this season she's blanked two teams in a row.
- UNH outshot Albany 21-7 overall.
- The Wildcats held the Great Danes to no shots on goal in the second half.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- With the win, the Wildcats are now on a five-game winning streak, their best since 1988 when the 'Cats won six straight, seven of their last eight games.
- The Wildcats remain unbeaten at home this season, 6-0-0, 2-0-0 in home conference games.
- The 'Cats 9-3-0 record is the best record through 12 games in program history, surpassing the 1991 8-3-1 record.
- For the third straight year, the Wildcats have started conference play 3-0-0.
