Armstrong’s Near Double-Double Isn’t Enough, Men’s Hoops fell 80-50 to Stony Brook

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Jacoby Armstrong (Sachse, Texas) scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell 80-50 to league-leading Stony Brook University, Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats fell even on the season (8-8) and dropped to 1-2 in America East play. Stony Brook improved to 13-4 and 4-0 in league play.
New Hampshire hits the road to take on the University of Maine (Jan. 18; 7 p.m.) and the University of Massachusetts Lowell (Jan. 21; 7 p.m.) before returning home to host the University of Hartford (Jan. 24; 1 p.m.). Armstrong shot 5 of 13 from the field and nailed a 3-pointer and three free throws. Sophomore Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) tallied 13 points (6 of 9) with five rebounds a block and two steals. Junior Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) scored seven points and grabbed seven boards.
The Wildcats hung around for most of the first half, never trailing by more than four points for the first 8 minutes, 35 seconds. Bryan Sekunda hit a 3-pointer to increase the Seawolves' lead to 19-13 with 11 minutes to play. Stony Brook finished the half on a 21-8 run to lead 40-21 at half. Camara tallied 10 of his 13 points in the first half.
In the second frame, UNH switched to zone for a little bit which limited 3-point baskets for the Seawolves (3 of 9 in the final half). With the Wildcats trailing 47-32, Stony Brook scored 14 straight points to lead 61-32 before a Camara free throw disrupted the stretch.
New Hampshire's bench outscored the Seawolves 24-18.
