Chiesa Leads Men’s Cross Country to an Eighth Place Finish at CCSU Mini Meet

NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – Junior Ryan Chiesa (Stockholm, N.J.) finished 29th overall to lead the University of New Hampshire men's cross country team to a eighth place finish at the Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet, Friday afternoon at Stanley Park.
Chiesa finished the 5K in 15:37 for his top time this season at that distance. Sophomore Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.) wrapped up the race in 15:44 for a 38th place finish. Freshmen Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) and Cody Symonds (Alton, N.H.) placed 46th (15:49) and 47th (15:50), respectively.
The final three scorers were sophomores Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.), Neil Mistretta (Durham, N.H.) and Joseph Verro (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). Kenefick finished the 5K in 15:51 for 48th place followed by Mistretta with a 52nd place finish (15:53). Verro cleaned up the final scoring spot with a 16:02 finish and 64th overall.
The Wildcats received a lot of experience in this meet, preparing for the championship season around the corner as well as the future of the program.
New Hampshire will travel to Stony Brook University on Saturday, Oct. 31 to take on the league at the America East Championship after placing fourth as a team last season.
