Taylor's Second Straight Win Carries Skiing to Third Place at UVM Carnival

STOWE, Vt. – University of New Hampshire senior skier Annika Taylor (Truckee, Calif.) registered her second straight Nordic victory –this time in the women's 10K classic mass start—to power the Wildcat skiing team to third place at the Vermont Carnival, which concluded Saturday.
UNH finished with 782 points to place behind carnival winner Vermont (940) and runner-up Dartmouth (885). Middlebury (661) and Colby (537) round out the top five finishers among 16 competing schools in the second Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association carnival of the season.
Taylor, who Friday notched her second career EISA victory in the women's 5K freestyle, made it back-to-back podiums at Trapp Family Lodge by crossing the line in 32 minutes, 36.3 seconds (50 points) in Saturday's 10K classic. Katrin Larusson (Truckee, Calif.) posted her second straight Top-10 result by placing ninth in 33:46.4 (31 points), and Lizzie Gill (Bozeman, Mont.) finished in 20th place (34:47.5) for 21 points. With 102 team points, second-place UNH was edged by Vermont (104).
The men's Nordic team was led by Per Lindgren (Pitea, Sweden), who finished the 15K classic in a 10th-place time of 42:33.6 for 30 points. Raleigh Goessling (Esko, Minn.) scored 28 points by virtue of his 12th-place run of 42:55.2, and Eirik Fosnaes (Hovik, Norway) tallied 25 points by finishing in 16th place (43:19.7). The 'Cats finished fourth with 83 points, while the Big Green scored 136 points for the men's Nordic victory.
At Mount Mansfield Ski Club, Chris Steinke (Ottawa, Ontario) compiled a two-run time of 1 minute, 51.97 seconds to finish fifth (41 points) in the men's slalom. Philippe Rivet (Saint-Lambert, Quebec) chipped in 31 points courtesy of his 11th-place time of 1:53.30, and Charles McConville (London, Ontario) finished in 23rd place (1:58.34/20 points) to round out New Hampshire's scoring. With 92 points, UNH finished behind UVM (141) and Dartmouth (107).
Randa Teschner (Petawawa, Ontario) was the top 'Cat in women's SL with a seventh-place combined time of 1:58.58 for 37 points. Lisa Wedsjö (Saltsjöbaden, Sweden) placed ninth in 1:59.46 for 33 points, and Laura Rozinowicz (Toronto, Ontario) chipped in nine points by finishing in 2:25.09 (36th place). UNH amassed a team score of 79 points for fourth place in the race won by UVM (127).
