Jensen Records Goal and Assist As Women's Ice Hockey Nipped 4-2 by No. 6/7 Boston U.

BOSTON – Nicoline Jensen (Rodovre, Denmark) recorded a goal and an assist but the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team was upended 4-2 by No. 6/7 Boston University at Walter Brown Arena on Sunday afternoon.
UNH, which recorded a 34-30 shot advantage and scored its first power-play goal of the season, is now 2-8-1 overall and 0-4-0 in Hockey East. BU, which recorded half of its shots in the third period, improved to 6-2-0, 3-1-0.
Jensen, a junior transfer from Castleton State College, recorded her first point as a Wildcat with an assist on a goal by Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) – her first career goal and point – and then scored 3:07 later to transform UNH's one-goal deficit into a 2-1 lead at 8:35.
Ashley Wilkes (North Pole, Alaska) made 12 of her 26 saves in the third period; she blanked BU in the first period on eight saves. Carlee Toews (Grand Prairie, Alberta) tallied her first collegiate point with an assist on Jensen's goal.
BU's comeback was fueled by Sarah Lefort, who scored the game-tying goal at 13:05 of the third period and netted an empty-net goal with 79 seconds remaining to secure the Terriers' win. Rebecca Leslie and Rebecca Russo scored BU's other goals and Erin O'Neil was credited with 32 saves; she stopped all 14 shots in the second stanza and 12 more in the final frame.
The Wildcats recorded the first three shots of the game, but O'Neil denied Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.), Jensen and then Kate Haslett (Rothesay, New Brunswick) in the opening four minutes.
BU's Leslie hit the post in the eighth minute as the game continued, scoreless. The Terriers went on the first power play of the game when the 'Cats were whistled for checking at 14:36, but Wilkes stopped the only shot she faced – it came off Lefort's stick – during the skater advantage.
New Hampshire recorded a 3-2 shot advantage the last three minutes of the first period, but O'Neil once again denied the three aforementioned Wildcats and Wilkes turned away both Caroline Campbell and Samantha Sutherland to end a scoreless opening stanza.
Leslie, with the assistance of Sarah Steele and Lillian Braga, gave BU a 1-0 lead at 4:03.
UNH was sent to the penalty box for cross-checking at 4:41, but the Terriers were called for interference at 5:41 to end their power play one minute early. Following the ensuing facecoff, Julia Fedeski (Algonquin Highlands, Ontario) and Curtis both put shots on goal that O'Neil stopped.
In the 12th minute, O'Neil kept the 'Cats scoreless with saves against Schlagel, Jensen and Hannah Armstrong (Keswick, Ontario). The Wildcats went back on the penalty kill at 14:54, but they did not allow a shot to get through to Wilkes. UNH started a power play at 17:02 – just eight seconds after the PK ended – and this time O'Neil denied Amy Boucher (Edmonton, Alberta) twice.
Boston U. carried that 1-0 lead into the third period and Sutherland hit the pipe in the opening minute. The 'Cats successfully killed off another penalty for checking at 2:23, and Wilkes kept the margin at one goal when she stopped consecutive shots by Lefort.
The Wildcats scored their first power-play goal of the season on Schlagel's goal a5 5:28. Momentum continued in favor of the visitors, but O'Neil blocked away shots by Jess Ryan (Cloquet, Minn.) and Kayla Mork (Victoria, Minn.) to preserve the 1-1 tie.
Jensen scored her first goal as a 'Cat – and 27th of her collegiate career – to give the 'Cats a 2-1 lead at 8:35.
The teams exchanged scoring chances until Lefort knotted the score, 2-2, at 13:05. Kayla Tutino and Victoria Bach were credited with assists. Russo netted the go-ahead goal 2:33 later to give BU a 3-2 lead at 15:38.
Wilkes was pulled in favor of an extra skater with 1:26 remaining in regulation, but Lefort deposited the puck into the empty net seven seconds later to extend the advantage to 4-2 at 18:41.
Wilkes temporarily reentered the game and returned to the bench with 12 seconds later. Cassandra Vilgrain (Calgary, Alberta) was stopped by O'Neil, who also turned away Caroline Broderick (Marblehead, Mass.) in the closing minute.
New Hampshire returns to action Saturday, Nov. 8 against the University of Vermont. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 2 p.m.
