Marie-Jo Pelletier, a sophomore defenseman from Dalhousie, New Brunswick, recorded a team-high five points in the three-game Hockey East quarterfinal series at Boston University from Feb. 24-26. Her other stats in the series included a plus/minus rating of +4, five shots and nine blocked shots. Despite her efforts, the UNH women’s hockey team was edged in the series, 2-1, with the total goals scored even at 9-9.
MJ matched her career high of two points with a goal an assist in Game 2, then equaled that point total once again in Game 3 with a personal best of two goals. She also tallied an assist in Game 1 for 3-2-5 in the series.
The captain helped secure UNH’s 4-2 victory in Game 1 with an assist on the Wildcats’ power-play goal that capped the game scoring with 41 seconds left in regulation. One day later, her unassisted goal and then primary assist broke a 1-1 tie and gave the ‘Cats a 3-1 lead early in the second period. In the decisive third game, MJ opened the game scoring just 17 seconds into the game and struck again early in the middle stanza to forge a 2-2 tie.
MJ was the only ‘Cat to record a point all three postseason games and she ended the season with a point in six of the last seven games; she tallied five goals and four assists for nine points in that span.
In 35 games this season, MJ recorded eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points to increase her two-year career totals to 8-19-27 in 71 games. This season, she tied for third on the team in goals and ranked fourth in points and recorded a team-high 69 blocked shots that ranked fifth in Hockey East. MJ also tied for seventh in league defenseman scoring.
