Liza Baykova, a junior from Moscow, Russia, recorded four first-place finishes – including three individual events – to propel the UNH swimming & diving team to Saturday’s 173-122 home win against the University of Rhode Island at Swasey Pool.
Liza shattered her own pool record in the 200-yard freestyle race with a winning time of 1 minutes, 48.11 seconds, which is two seconds faster than her previous benchmark and ranks No. 19 in the nation.
She was also the fastest swimmer in the 50 free (23.90 seconds) and 100 free (50.74 seconds). Liza combined with three teammates to win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:38.85.
One week earlier in the home opener against Central Connecticut State University, Liza tallied a total of five first-place finishes. She swept the 50, 100 and 200 free races and was part of the winning 400 free and 200 medley relay teams.
