Shattles Hits 2K Career Assists, Volleyball Topples Furman in First-Ever Meeting

Jessica Shattles became the sixth Wildcat to join the 2,000-assist club.
CLEMSON, S.C. — The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team took down Furman University (6-5, 0-0 SoCon) on Friday afternoon (Sept. 18) at Jervey Gym, winning 3-1. The set scores were 25-23, 15-25, 25-22, and 26-24.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
-Furman opened the match with a 9-7 scoring edge, before the Wildcats took a 5-0 run for an early 12-9 lead. Emma Converse (San Antonio, Texas) landed back-to-back service aces and a kill while Hady Pickard (Roswell, Ga.) earned an ace and Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) put away two kills and an ace.
-Despite being outscored 14-13 to close the set, the Wildcats edged out the Paladins 25-23 to take a 1-0 match advantage. In the back half of the frame, Evelyn Brenton (Glastonbury, Conn.) led UNH with three kills, including the set-sealing score, while Julianne Lee (Renton, Wash.), Converse, and Grier each put up a pair.
SET 2
-UNH opened the second set outscoring the Paladins 15-11, fueled by kills from five different players, including two apiece from Converse, Lee, and Varvara Zvereva (Korolev, Russia).
-Furman responded with a 14-0 scoring run, taking the second set 25-15.
SET 3
-The Wildcats opened the third set outpacing the Paladins 15-12 on the scoresheet, powered by three-kill starts from Brenton and Olivia Maulding (Canby, Ore.), and two kills apiece from Grier and Converse.
-New Hampshire and Furman traded points to close the set, leading to a 25-22 win for the Wildcats. Maulding led the push from the UNH offense, tallying three kills to bring her set total up to six.
SET 4
-Furman and New Hampshire battled back and forth to open the fourth set, culminating in a 15-14 Wildcat lead at the media timeout. Julianne Lee and Olivia Maulding led the attack, each putting up four kills.
-The Wildcats and Paladins continued to trade blows, setting up a late 24-24 tie led by three kills from Lee.

BY THE NUMBERS
-Seven different players earned a kill in the win, paced by a career-high 13 kill outing for Julianne Lee, a career-high 12 kills from Olivia Maulding, and 10 kills from Emma Converse.
- Lee earned 10+ kills for the second time in her career, previously reaching the mark in the Wildcats' win over FDU (Sept. 11).
- Maulding's 12-kill day not only marked a career-best for the right-side hitter but marked her first-career game with double-digit kills.
- Converse's 10-kill match marked her ninth performance with 10+ kills this season.
-Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) headlined the team with 45 assists, including her 2,000th-career assist. Additionally, her 45-assist day was:

- Jessica Shattles earned her third double-double of the season, finishing with 10 digs.
-Emma Converse and Rachel Grier led the team with two service aces each.
-Grier also led the team with three block assists.
