Wildcats Fall to UConn 3-0 in Straight Sets

Emma Converse earned 10+ kills for the eighth time this season.
STORRS, Conn. — The University of New Hampshire women's volleyball team fell to the University of Connecticut (4-4, 0-0 Big East) on Friday evening (Sept. 11) at the UConn Volleyball Center, losing 3-0 in straight sets. The set scores were 19-25, 20-25, and 15-25.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
-New Hampshire came out quick to open the match, starting on a 5-1 scoring run before the Huskies took six straight points for an early 6-5 advantage.
-The Huskies and Wildcats continued to trade points, with UConn holding a 9-8 edge to take a 15-13 edge. In the early going, Emma Converse (San Antonio, Texas) paced the attack with a pair of kills and a solo block.
-UConn began to pull away in the tail-end of the opening frame, going on a 10-6 run to take the first set, 25-19.
SET 2
-UConn opened the second frame outscoring the Wildcats 9-6. For UNH, Converse landed a pair of kills while Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) collected a service ace.
-The 'Cats and Huskies went back-and-forth through the middle of the set, each scoring eight points to make it a 17-14 UConn lead. Three players scored on the attack, paced by two kills from Julianne Lee (Renton, Wash.) and a service ace from Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.).
-UConn finished the set outpacing New Hampshire 8-6, winning 25-20.
SET 3
-The Huskies once again took control early in the set, giving UConn a 13-8 advantage.
-UConn outlasted the Wildcats, finishing on a 12-6 scoring run to take the final set 25-15.
